Jimmy Cliff, nom de scène de James Chambers (1948), est un chanteur et musicien jamaïcain légendaire considéré comme l'un des pionniers du reggae international. Né à Saint Catherine Parish, en Jamaïque, Cliff a commencé sa carrière musicale dans les années 1960 avec le groupe The Wailing Wailers, collaborant avec Bob Marley avant de connaître le succès en solo. Son style musical est caractérisé par un mélange de reggae, ska et rocksteady, souvent accompagné de paroles qui abordent des thèmes sociaux et politiques. Cliff a atteint la renommée mondiale en 1972 avec le film "The Harder They Come", où il jouait le rôle principal et chantait la bande originale, notamment la chanson inoubliable "Many Rivers to Cross". Ce succès l'a consacré comme icône du reggae et a contribué à diffuser ce genre musical dans le monde entier. Parmi ses chansons les plus célèbres figurent également "Wonderful World, Beautiful People", "You Can Get It If You Really Want" et "Vietnam".
