Son Volt è un gruppo musicale statunitense di genere alternative country, formatosi nel 1994 a Chicago da Jay Farrar, ex membro degli Uncle Tupelo. Dopo lo scioglimento di quest'ultimo, Farrar ha riunito alcuni musicisti per dare vita a Son Volt, che hanno subito riscosso successo con il loro album d'esordio "Trace" (1995). Il sound del gruppo è caratterizzato da un mix di country rock, folk e psichedelia, influenzato da artisti come Neil Young, The Byrds e Gram Parsons. Tra i brani più rappresentativi di Son Volt figurano "Drown", "Windfall" e "The World Won't End". Nel corso degli anni, il gruppo ha pubblicato diversi album di successo, tra cui "Straightaways" (1996), "Scenes from the Suburbs" (2000) e "American Central Dust" (2005). Jay Farrar rimane l'unico membro originale del gruppo, che ha attraversato diverse formazioni nel corso della sua storia.
