The Mars Volta est un groupe de rock américain formé à El Paso, au Texas, en 2001. L'éclectisme musical est une caractéristique distinctive du groupe, qui fusionne des éléments de rock progressif, d'avant-garde, de funk, de jazz fusion, de punk et de bruit. Les membres fondateurs sont Cedric Bixler-Zavala (chant) et Omar Rodríguez-López (guitare), qui ont précédemment collaboré dans le projet At the Drive-In. The Mars Volta a sorti six albums studio, dont les acclamés « De-Loused in the Comatorium » (2003) et « Frances the Mute » (2005).
