The Pogues sont un groupe de folk punk anglo-irlandais actif dans les années 1980 et 1990. Fondé à Londres en 1982 par Shane MacGowan (chanteur) et Jem Finer (guitare), le groupe a su mélanger des influences traditionnelles irlandaises avec un son rock énergique, créant un genre unique qui les a rendus iconiques. Leur style, défini par MacGowan lui-même comme « musique irlandaise pour un jeune public rock », se caractérise par des mélodies accrocheuses, des paroles souvent mélancoliques et profondes, et une forte composante de protestation sociale. Parmi les chansons les plus célèbres des Pogues figurent "Fairytale of New York", une collaboration avec Kirsty MacColl qui est devenue un classique de Noël, "A Rainy Night in Soho" et "Streams of Whiskey".
