Dio est un groupe de heavy metal formé en 1982 par Ronnie James Dio, après son passage chez Black Sabbath. La formation originale comprenait Dio au chant, Vinny Appice à la batterie, Vivian Campbell à la guitare et Jimmy Bain à la basse. Claude Schnell a rejoint le groupe après le premier album, permettant à Dio de se concentrer uniquement sur le chant. Dio a connu un grand succès dans les années 1980 avec un son puissant et mélodique, influencé par la fantasy et la mythologie. Parmi les chansons les plus représentatives : *Holy Diver*, *Rainbow in the Dark* et *The Last in Line*. L'album éponyme de début (1982) est considéré comme un classique du heavy metal.
