Gang Starr est un duo de hip-hop formé à New York en 1987 par Guru (Keith Edward Elam) et DJ Premier (Edward Barnes). Après quelques sorties initiales avec d'autres membres, le duo s'est imposé comme l'une des forces les plus influentes de la scène hip-hop new-yorkaise. Leur musique, caractérisée par les paroles introspectives de Guru et les beats complexes et innovants de DJ Premier, a contribué à définir le son du hip-hop de la côte est dans les années 1990. Parmi leurs titres les plus représentatifs : "Mass Appeal", "Just to Get By" et "Above the Clouds". Gang Starr a sorti huit albums studio, dont l'album certifié d'or "Hard to Earn" (1994) et le très acclamé "Moment of Truth" (1998). Le groupe s'est dissous en 2003 avec la mort de Guru.

J'ai l'impression qu'avant d'aborder le sujet traité dans cet article je dois faire une prémisse: le reggaeton n'est pas vraiment mon genre préféré, il se réfugie dans un rythme très banal avec des textes que 99% du temps décrivent la femme comme un objet disponible à l'homme macho.
