Obituary è una band di death metal statunitense formatasi a Tampa, Florida, nel 1984. Considerati uno dei pionieri del genere, hanno contribuito in modo significativo alla definizione dell'estetica e del suono del death metal classico. La formazione originale comprendeva John Tardy (voce), Allen West (chitarra), Frank Watkins (basso) e Donald Tardy (batteria). Il loro debutto omonimo, pubblicato nel 1989, è considerato un album fondamentale per la scena death metal. Tra i brani più rappresentativi figurano "Slowly We Rot", "Into Dust" e "Cause of Death". Obituary ha attraversato diverse fasi di evoluzione musicale, sperimentando con sonorità più groove e progressive nel corso degli anni. Nonostante le varie formazioni, il nucleo originale della band è rimasto costante, garantendo un'identità sonora riconoscibile.
