Down By Law è una band punk rock formatasi intorno al 1990. Il frontman Dave Smalley, già noto per il suo lavoro con Dag Nasty, ha collaborato con i membri di Chemical People per il loro album d'esordio, passando attraverso diverse formazioni nel corso degli anni. Iniziando con Epitaph Records per il loro primo album omonimo, DBL è rimasta sulla stessa etichetta fino a "Last of the Sharpshooters" del 1997.
