Ugly Duckling est un groupe de hip-hop américain formé à Long Beach, Californie, en 1993. Le trio original était composé de Dizzy Dustin, Young Einstein et Andy Cooper. Connus pour leurs rimes complexes, leurs rythmes funky et leurs paroles souvent ironiques et auto-dépréciatives, Ugly Duckling ont contribué à définir la scène hip-hop underground californienne des années 90. Leur album de début, "The Ugly Duckling", sorti en 1996, est considéré comme un classique du genre. Parmi leurs morceaux les plus représentatifs, on peut citer "The World Is Yours", "I Got It" et "Gettin' Jiggy With It". J'ai l'impression qu'avant d'aborder le sujet traité dans cet article je dois faire une prémisse: le reggaeton n'est pas vraiment mon genre préféré, il se réfugie dans un rythme très banal avec des textes que 99% du temps décrivent la femme comme un objet disponible à l'homme macho.
