Soft Cell est un duo britannique de synthpop connu pour être devenu célèbre au début des années 1980. Le groupe est composé du chanteur Marc Almond et de David Ball, responsable des synthétiseurs. Leur renommée internationale est due au succès mondial de 1981 avec une version revisitée de "Tainted Love" de Gloria Jones. Bien que cette chanson ait été le seul succès de Soft Cell dans les classements américains, le duo a connu dix succès dans le top 40 britannique, notamment "Bedsitter", "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye", "Torch" et "What!". Ils ont également sorti quatre albums qui se sont classés parmi les vingt premiers au Royaume-Uni entre 1981 et 1984. Parmi les autres succès notables du duo, on peut citer "Where The Heart Is", "Numbers", "Down In The Subway", "Soul Inside" et "The Night". Soft Cell s'est séparé en 1984, mais s'est reformé au début des années 2000 pour faire des tournées et a sorti un nouvel album en 2002.
