Matthew Shafer, conosciuto professionalmente come Uncle Kracker, è un cantautore e musicista statunitense nato nel 1976 a Michigan. Iniziò la sua carriera musicale suonando con Kid Rock, diventandone il chitarrista e collaboratore di lunga data. Nel 2000 pubblicò il suo album di debutto "No Stranger to Shame", che ottenne un grande successo grazie al singolo "Follow Me". Uncle Kracker è noto per il suo stile country-rock influenzato dal funk, con testi spesso ironici e orecchiabili. Tra i suoi brani più famosi figurano anche "Drift Away" e "Smile". Ha collaborato con numerosi artisti, tra cui Kenny Chesney e Sheryl Crow.
