Monsters of Folk est un supergroupe américain formé en 2004 par Jim James de My Morning Jacket, Conor Oberst et Mike Mogis de Bright Eyes et M. Ward. L'idée est née lors de tournées avec leurs projets solo respectifs et les groupes. Après avoir joué ensemble sur scène et hors scène, ils ont décidé de collaborer à un projet commun. En raison des engagements des membres avec leurs projets principaux, l'album de début n'est arrivé qu'en 2009, sorti le 22 septembre chez Rough Trade. Le son du groupe est un mélange de folk-rock influencé par la chanson américaine et la musique indie. Parmi les chansons les plus représentatives, on peut citer "The Right Hand Man", "Dear Companion" et "Great Plains".
