Cobra Starship est un groupe américain de rock dance et synthpop formé à New York City en 2005 par le bassiste et chanteur principal de Midtown, Gabe Saporta. Outre Saporta, le groupe comprend le guitariste Ryland Blackinton, le bassiste Alex Suarez, le batteur Nate Novarro et la claviériste Victoria Asher, qui contribuent également aux chœurs. Leur album de début, *While the City Sleeps, We Rule the Streets*, est sorti en 2006, suivi de *¡Viva la Cobra!* en 2007. Leur dernier album studio est *Hot Mess* en 2009. J'ai l'impression qu'avant d'aborder le sujet traité dans cet article je dois faire une prémisse: le reggaeton n'est pas vraiment mon genre préféré, il se réfugie dans un rythme très banal avec des textes que 99% du temps décrivent la femme comme un objet disponible à l'homme macho.
