Richard John Thompson (nato il 3 luglio 1949) è un chitarrista, cantante e compositore britannico di fama internazionale. Considerato uno dei più grandi chitarristi del mondo, Thompson ha una carriera che abbraccia oltre cinque decenni, caratterizzata da un'eccezionale abilità tecnica e una profonda sensibilità musicale. Iniziò la sua carriera negli anni '60 con Fairport Convention, gruppo folk-rock di grande successo in Inghilterra. Dopo aver lasciato il gruppo, Thompson si dedicò a una carriera solista, pubblicando album di grande apprezzamento critico come "Henry the Fool" (1978), "Rumor and Sigh" (1988) e "Mirror Blue" (2006). La sua musica è un mix di folk, rock, blues e country, spesso con influenze jazz e progressive. Thompson è noto per le sue canzoni intricate, i testi poetici e la sua chitarra virtuosistica.
