Bruce Cockburn est un auteur-compositeur-interprète canadien né en 1945. Il a commencé sa carrière dans les années 1960, publiant des albums folk influencés par des artistes comme Bob Dylan et Joni Mitchell. Tout au long des années 1970, ses chansons ont souvent exploré des thèmes de foi chrétienne, mais d'une manière non dogmatique, mettant l'accent sur la compassion pour les autres. Dans les années 1980, sa musique est devenue plus politique, avec des chansons comme "If I Had A Rocket Launcher", inspirées par son expérience dans un camp de réfugiés guatémaltèque au nom d'Oxfam. Cockburn a toujours été très populaire au Canada, où il a été intronisé au Canadian Music Hall of Fame en 2001.
