Joe Strummer, pseudonimo di John Graham Mellor (1952-2002), è stato un cantautore, chitarrista e attivista britannico. Noto per essere il frontman dei The Clash, una delle band punk più influenti della storia musicale. Nato a Ankara, in Turchia, da genitori inglesi, Strummer trascorse la sua infanzia tra Londra e l'Europa continentale. Influenzato dal rock 'n' roll americano e dalla musica folk britannica, iniziò a suonare la chitarra all'età di 15 anni. Nel 1976 fondò i The Clash con Mick Jones, Paul Simonon e Topper Headon. La band divenne rapidamente un simbolo del movimento punk, mescolando energia punk, reggae, ska e rockabilly in un sound unico e rivoluzionario. I loro album, come *London Calling* (1979) e *Sandinista!* (1980), sono considerati pietre miliari della musica punk e hanno influenzato generazioni di musicisti.
