Sir Elton Hercules John, nato Reginald Kenneth Dwight il 25 marzo 1947 a Pinner, Middlesex, Inghilterra, è uno dei musicisti più influenti e riconoscibili al mondo. Iniziò a studiare pianoforte all'età di sei anni e si formò alla Royal Academy of Music. Nel 1962 cambiò nome in Elton John e iniziò la sua carriera musicale come tastierista per diversi artisti, tra cui Bluesology. Nel 1967 incontrò il lyricist Bernie Taupin, con cui ha collaborato costantemente fino ad oggi. Il loro primo album insieme, *Empty Sky*, uscì nel 1969. Il successo arrivò con l'album del 1970 *Tumbleweed Connection* e la hit *Your Song*. Negli anni '70 John divenne una superstar mondiale con album come *Goodbye Yellow Brick Road* (1973), *Caribou* (1974) e *Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy* (1975). I suoi brani più famosi includono *Tiny Dancer*, *Rocket Man*, *Bennie and the Jets*, *Candle in the Wind* e *Don't Go Breaking My Heart*.
