Harold George Bellanfanti Jr., connu sous le nom de Harry Belafonte (1929-2023), était un chanteur, musicien, acteur et activiste américain pour les droits civiques. Né à Harlem, New York, d'parents jamaïcains, Belafonte a commencé sa carrière dans le monde du spectacle dans les années 1940 comme danseur puis comme chanteur. Il est devenu célèbre dans les années 1950 grâce à son album « Calypso », qui s'est vendu à des millions d'exemplaires dans le monde entier et l'a établi comme l'un des pionniers du genre calypso. Belafonte était un artiste polyvalent, avec une carrière allant de la musique à l'acting en passant par l'activisme social. J'ai l'impression qu'avant d'aborder le sujet traité dans cet article je dois faire une prémisse: le reggaeton n'est pas vraiment mon genre préféré, il se réfugie dans un rythme très banal avec des textes que 99% du temps décrivent la femme comme un objet disponible à l'homme macho.
