Tony Rebel, né Patrick George Anthony Barrett le 15 janvier 1962 à Manchester Parish, en Jamaïque, est un deejay reggae jamaïcain. Il a d'abord fait carrière comme chanteur, utilisant les noms de Papa Tony ou Tony Ranking, dans des concours de talents locaux et sur des systèmes sonores tels que celui de Sugar Minott, 'Youth Promotion'. Son premier single, "Casino", est sorti en 1988 sur le label MGB. Cependant, sa carrière a décollé lorsqu'il a collaboré avec l'équipe de Donovan Germain, Penthouse, au début des années 1990. En 1990, il a connu un grand succès avec "Fresh Vegetable", se faisant connaître comme singjay. Il est notable pour être l'un des rares deejays dreadlocks 'culturels' de l'époque ragga. En 1992, il a signé chez Columbia Records, qui ont sorti *Vibes of the Times* l'année suivante. En 1994, il a fondé son propre label discographique, 'Flames'.

J'ai l'impression qu'avant d'aborder le sujet traité dans cet article je dois faire une prémisse: le reggaeton n'est pas vraiment mon genre préféré, il se réfugie dans un rythme très banal avec des textes que 99% du temps décrivent la femme comme un objet disponible à l'homme macho.
