Burl Ives (1909-1995) è stato un cantante, attore e musicista americano di fama internazionale. Nato a Hawesville, Kentucky, Ives ha iniziato la sua carriera come cantautore folk negli anni '30, guadagnandosi popolarità per il suo profondo timbro vocale e le interpretazioni autentiche di canzoni tradizionali americane. Nel corso degli anni '40 e '50, Ives si è affermato anche come attore teatrale e cinematografico, ottenendo riconoscimenti per i suoi ruoli in opere come "The Desperate Hours" (1955) e "Big Country" (1958). Ha vinto un Academy Award nel 1960 per la sua interpretazione di 'Rufus Hannigan' nel film "The Big Country".
