Shel Silverstein (1930-1999) è stato un artista poliedrico americano di fama internazionale. Nato a Chicago, Illinois, ha dimostrato fin da giovane una passione per la scrittura e il disegno. Dopo aver servito nell'esercito durante la Guerra di Corea, si dedicò alla carriera artistica pubblicando poesie, canzoni, fumetti e libri illustrati per bambini. Silverstein è noto soprattutto per i suoi versi ironici e giocosi che hanno conquistato generazioni di lettori. Tra le sue opere più celebri figurano "Where the Sidewalk Ends", "A Light in the Attic" e "Falling Up".
