Devin Garrett Townsend è un musicista canadese nato nel 1972, noto per la sua versatilità musicale che spazia dal progressive metal al jazz fusion, passando per l'electronica e il rock sperimentale. Iniziò la sua carriera negli anni '90 con la band Strapping Young Lad, caratterizzata da un sound heavy e aggressivo. Nel 2000 ha dato vita al progetto solista Devin Townsend Project, esplorando sonorità più melodiche e introspettive. Townsend è apprezzato per le sue capacità compositive, vocali e strumentali, oltre che per la sua personalità eccentrica e il suo approccio innovativo alla musica. Tra i suoi album più importanti figurano "Ocean Machine: Biomech" (1997), "Addicted" (2007) e "Empath" (2019). Tra le sue canzoni più rappresentative ricordiamo "Kingdom", "Deadhead" e "Why?.
