The Academy Is... étaient un groupe américain de rock alternatif/emo-pop originaire de Barrington, Illinois, une banlieue de Chicago. Fondé en 2003, le groupe utilisait initialement le nom « The Academy », mais en 2004, ils ont ajouté le suffixe « Is… » pour éviter les litiges avec d'autres groupes musicaux portant le même nom. La formation originale comprenait William Beckett (chant), Andy Mrotek (guitare), Adam Siska (basse) et Mike Carden (batterie). En 2005, leur premier album, « Almost Here », a été suivi de « Santi » en 2007. Le groupe est connu pour son son énergique et mélodique, influencé par le rock emo et le pop punk. Parmi leurs chansons les plus représentatives, on peut citer « The Phrase That Pays », « Slow Down » et « Heartbeat ». The Academy Is… a annoncé sa dissolution en 2011, mais s'est reformé pour se produire au Riot Fest de Chicago en 2015.

J'ai l'impression qu'avant d'aborder le sujet traité dans cet article je dois faire une prémisse: le reggaeton n'est pas vraiment mon genre préféré, il se réfugie dans un rythme très banal avec des textes que 99% du temps décrivent la femme comme un objet disponible à l'homme macho.
